Project 03: Brookfield Place
The Brookfield Place development comprised the conservation and adaptive reuse of a group of five significant heritage buildings on St Georges Terrace (Old Perth Boys School, Perth Technical School, Royal Insurance Buildings, WA Trustees Buildings and Newspaper House), the construction of a multi-storey tower behind the heritage buildings, and creation of visual and physical connections between the old and new buildings.
Palassis Architects were engaged as the sole heritage and conservation architects for the project, working closely with lead architects Hassell. Palassis Architects role included design, documentation and construction period services for extensive conservation works to all heritage buildings; and associated heritage advice throughout the project.
Prior to this project, the heritage buildings at Brookfield Place had been abandoned for many years and hidden behind hoardings. All had suffered the ravages of weather, vandalism and theft before conservation. Now complete, the works have transformed Brookfield Place into a multi-award winning business and leisure destination.
